RASHIDRA SCOTT
Hi Rashidra, hows SISTER ACT going?
It is going so well- it is truly a treat to be a part of such a joyous show.
What's it like to not only play Michelle/Ensemble but to cover Deloris? Is it hard to remember both tracks?
Since the show just opened, we just started understudy rehearsals so my brain hasn’t been too clouded. The hardest parts for me right now are not mouthing Deloris’s lines with her onstage and finding out who Deloris is for myself.
Do you have a favorite song/scene in the show?
Wow- it’s hard to choose just one. “Bless Our Show” is special on it’s own. Jerry brilliantly set us up for an environment of support, positivity, and love from the first day and it really exhibits how we all take that to heart and are a family. We realize how blessed and fortunate we all are and it’s nice to express that- such honest and vulnerable lyrics and musicality- a gift to us from Glen (Slater) and Alan (Menkin).
My other favorite is “Spread The Love.” It’s the end of the show and, especially on a 2-show day, you’re just spent and tired. But there is so much joy to be given, it almost becomes an out of body experience where my physical exhaustion is secondary to the moment. More energy, love, and joy seem to come from a place I can only tap in to at that moment.
What was the best opening night gift you got?
I’m a junk food junkie so any and everything food related lol. Seriously, as cheesy as it sounds, the entire night was a gift unto itself. My mom and step-dad drove up from Virginia and it was their first Broadway opening. The sense of family we have as a cast- the show was the best gift… and continues to be.
If you could play ANY role in a musical/play who would it be and why?
Off the top of my head I would have to say “Aida.” That, and Sara in “Ragtime” are the first two roles I fell in love with doing musical theatre in high school. They were the first roles I could actually see myself doing. And there’s also “Dreamgirls.” As an only child I may have, at one point during middle school, come home and performed the entire soundtrack by myself… daily- acting out each role. The best was the “Firing of Jimmy.” I’d switch body angles and everything to show (myself) I was a different character. HA!
